Description

This uniform is an important series introduced by All Nippon Airways (ANA) under the “One Brand” strategy, with the primary objective of reinforcing group-wide unity and a consistent brand image. During the design process, particular emphasis was placed on user feedback. Three design proposals were presented, and passenger opinions were referenced during the selection period from June 1 to June 30, 2004, before the final version was officially determined. This approach reflects the airline’s design philosophy of shaping brand image from a customer-oriented perspective. The uniform was designed by Atsuro Tayama, achieving a well-balanced integration of professionalism and approachability in service image.

The overall appearance embodies a highly typical “traditional airline business suit” style, with black as the dominant color, creating a first impression of stability, reliability, and strong professionalism. The overall tone is understated and refined, featuring subtle pinstripe textures that add depth and material richness to the dark base, preventing the uniform from appearing monotonous. At the same time, this enhances a mature, formal, and disciplined workplace atmosphere, aligning with the dignified image traditionally expected in airline service.

The jacket adopts a tailored fit with natural shoulder lines and a slightly cinched waist, resulting in a neat and well-proportioned silhouette suited for long-term use as a standard uniform style. The front features a single-breasted design with clean lines and stable proportions, avoiding exaggerated styling and instead expressing a sense of trained professionalism and reliability through structured construction. The jacket length falls around the hip area, ensuring a dignified and appropriate body proportion while also helping maintain a tidy appearance during actual duties.

Underneath, a light-colored shirt is worn to create a bright visual contrast against the black jacket, adding a sense of freshness to the upper body and making facial expressions appear more lively and approachable. At the neckline, a pink-purple scarf is tied to the side, serving as the most prominent element of feminine elegance within the uniform. This accessory enhances approachability and softness without being overly ostentatious, while also contributing to brand recognizability. A matching pocket square is placed in the chest pocket, enriching the color layering and further elevating the refinement of the overall detailing.

The lower half is paired with a knee-length narrow skirt made from the same fabric, forming a cohesive and consistent suit structure with the jacket. The restrained and formal silhouette aligns with the high standards of posture and decorum required in airline service in public settings. Black stockings and black low-heeled shoes maintain a unified color tone from top to bottom, presenting a mature image that combines composure with understated elegance.
