本縣吉安鄉位在花蓮市區之南，東西寬廣，西區已有吉安國中，中區亦有宜昌國中，惟東區迄無國中，造成學生與家長諸多不便，且需橫越鐵路平交道，再者宜昌國中及市區學校亦因班級數及學生數早逾飽和，縣府有鑒於此，經多方研議規劃，遂於八十二年通過預算，定案籌設「仁里國中」以符民望。
83年1月18日，係由當時之花崗國中潘松根校長兼任籌備處主任，86年7月17日更名為化仁國中，88年8月1日正式招生。
