Description
The overall design of this uniform is centered on a modernized Kartini Kebaya silhouette. The upper garment adopts a modified stand-collar Kebaya structure, with a slightly raised neckline that creates a sharper and more formal appearance while preserving the elegant proportions characteristic of traditional Southeast Asian women’s attire. The sleeves feature a subtly widened shape around the elbow area, balancing traditional garment vocabulary with comfort and mobility during in-flight duties. The front center line utilizes a concealed opening design, paired with a silver brooch as a visual focal point, presenting a restrained yet refined aviation uniform aesthetic.
In terms of color, the most distinctive feature of this series is its overall purple palette. Designer Didiet Maulana has noted that the choice of purple was not based on a single symbolic meaning, but rather on its ability to convey an elegant, soft, and graceful visual impression while harmonizing naturally with traditional woven textiles used in the ensemble. Purple is interpreted as a color language that expresses elegance, composure, and a gentle sense of shading, allowing the cabin crew image to appear both sophisticated and approachable.
The lower half is paired with a long traditional Indonesian sarong skirt. The front slit design creates a draped, tie-skirt-like visual effect, preserving the proportional aesthetics of traditional attire while enhancing practicality for walking and in-flight service. The fabric incorporates traditional Indonesian textile elements, including a combination of Balinese Endek weaving and Klaten striped fabrics. Through its patterns and textures, the material symbolizes the fusion of Indonesia’s diverse cultural heritage and reinforces a strong sense of national identity.
