This uniform was designed by Indonesian designer Didiet Maulana of Ikat Indonesia and represents a highly integrated airline uniform that combines “traditional culture, modern functionality, and brand identity” into a cohesive design.

The overall silhouette is centered on a modernized Kartini Kebaya. The upper garment features a modified stand-collar Kebaya with a slightly raised neckline, creating a sharper and more formal appearance while preserving the elegance characteristic of traditional Southeast Asian attire. The sleeves are intentionally designed with a widened elbow silhouette, resembling a subtle bell sleeve, which not only echoes traditional clothing vocabulary but also enhances comfort and functional mobility during service. According to the designer, the development process involved multiple rounds of on-site testing and adjustments, prioritizing safety and operational convenience for cabin crew in both routine service and emergency situations, rather than pursuing purely conceptual aesthetics at the expense of practicality.

In terms of color, the most distinctive feature of this uniform is its overall purple-toned palette. Didiet Maulana explained that the choice of purple was not merely based on predetermined brand colors, but on its ability to convey “elegance, softness, and a refined sense of depth.” The hue presents a calm yet noble visual impression and harmonizes naturally with traditional woven textiles. Compared to brighter uniform colors, this low-saturation purplish-red tone emphasizes maturity, sophistication, and the premium image expected of a national flag carrier.

The fabric selection carries deeper cultural significance. The uniform incorporates Balinese Endek textiles and Klaten striped fabrics, paired with a long traditional sarong-style skirt featuring Indonesian motif elements. This textile composition is not only an aesthetic decision but also symbolizes the fusion of Indonesia’s diverse cultural and regional weaving traditions. Through the combination of different woven materials and the use of a woven waist sash detail, the designer intentionally transforms national cultural heritage into a functional uniform language suitable for daily duty, embodying the core concept of showcasing the “Beauty of Indonesia.”

The skirt is designed in a long length with a front pleated structure, creating a visual tie-skirt effect. This design maintains a dignified posture while improving walking ease and flexibility during in-flight operations. The overall tailored fit, combined with the traditional waist-wrap proportion, allows the body silhouette to appear elegant without being restrictive, aligning well with the practical requirements of long-haul flight duties.
