Description
This uniform was personally designed by Laurence Xu, and it embodies an elegant aesthetic enriched with deep cultural resonance. By introducing the language of haute couture into airline uniform design, it achieves a highly distinctive expression of Eastern-inspired elegance. The first impression is dignified and gentle—never ostentatious, yet rich in detail—clearly setting it apart from conventional Western-style airline uniforms.
The upper garment features a misty gray cropped jacket with a stand collar, tailored to follow the body without feeling restrictive. Its lines naturally contour the silhouette, creating a refined and understated profile. An asymmetrical front closure combined with subtly curved construction replaces traditional lapels and button rows, lending a modern sensibility while preserving the composure and restraint symbolized by the stand collar in Eastern dress traditions. The matching hat, rendered in the same tonal palette, is minimalist in form yet adds a sense of ceremony and completeness to the overall ensemble.
The skirt serves as the most culturally symbolic visual centerpiece of the uniform. Rendered in a blue-and-white palette, it is adorned with layered wave patterns and cloud motifs inspired by traditional Chinese landscape painting and maritime imagery. The flowing design is dynamic without appearing busy, transforming natural scenery into a moving canvas. This approach breaks away from the uniform’s conventional reliance on solid colors and seamlessly weaves cultural storytelling into everyday service environments.
The overall color scheme centers on shades of gray, blue, and white, resulting in a look that feels fresh and refined. Paired with dark stockings and silver-gray shoes, the ensemble maintains a sense of stability while retaining lightness and ease. Accessories and lines are used with restraint, respecting the proportions and negative space characteristic of haute couture, allowing attention to rest on the uniform’s overall character rather than any single decorative element.
