Groote Schuur High School in Newlands, Cape Town believes in providing opportunities for learners to excel in academics, cultural pursuits and sport.
To encourage excellence in academics, an Awards Assembly is held at the end of each term where the top learners in each grade are acknowledged. There is also an Annual Prizegiving Ceremony for Grade 8 to 11 where learners' achievements are rewarded. The Matriculants have their own Prizegiving and Valedictory service.
The school has a vibrant Music Department and the Jazz Bands as well the Vocal Ensemble perform regularly at events at school, as well as at various Music festivals and events. The Drama Department stages an annual production and participates in a variety of school drama festivals. In addition, learners at Groote Schuur High School have the opportunity to interact with learners from our various partner schools across the globe. There are opportunities to meet and mingle (both here and abroad) with learners from: St. Aidans in England, Weibelfeldschule in Germany, Magwegwe High School in Zimbabwe, and Holy Innocents Episcopal School in America.
Sport is an integral part of the school's life, with a dedicated sports period as part of the school day for each grade. There are a variety of summer and winter sporting codes available and many of our learners are selected as representatives of both provincial and national teams. In addition to participating in sports leagues, the school has annual derbies against other high schools where meets are held across the winter sporting codes.
With all the opportunities available at Groote Schuur High School, it can rightly be said that it is a school where children are happy.
