At KHS we are committed to holding in that fine balance, all that is excellent from the traditions of the past, while being progressive within the dynamics of the continual changes of the educational climate we find ourselves in.
KHS Primary girls to High School ladies, are expected to uphold those traditional values such as respect, courtesy, integrity, gratitude, honesty, personal discipline and honouring of the rules. To somehow weave and intermarry these principles into our current social, educational climate continues to prove a challenge. Our hope lies in parents who also strive to attain these principles in their homes, and can thus partner with the school in producing exceptional and extraordinary young ladies.
We firmly hold onto the principles of the five points of our KHS star, namely:-
….Integrity in Mind and Spirit
KHS requires that all staff, elected school leaders and all students observe and conduct their lives according to this fundamental principle. Integrity being defined as “adherence to moral and ethical principles, soundness of moral character; honesty”. We consider it our greatest triumph and achievement if students leaving KHS can lead and effect positive change in our country and society, by way of being a fitting example of this principle.
….Excellence in Academics
Quality teachers, quality teaching and willing students bring about that wonderful dynamic where the sum of the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We strive to provide the best for our students, and those efforts are rewarded by our record of high academic achievement year after year.
….True Sportsmanship
In winning and losing in sport, KHS students are taught the value of teamwork, the satisfaction of pushing oneself beyond previous limits, the sweet taste of success when pushing past challenges, and the “love of the game”, whatever that game may be. KHS encourages students to participate in as many sporting opportunities as possible and offers many opportunities to do so.
….Beauty in the Arts
KHS has enjoyed many successes with the many talented students who have graced her stages, and halls in the past. KHS still places considerable emphasis on all that is musical, cultural and beautiful in all the different art forms, such as poetry, drama, music, debating, choir, dance, steel band, public speaking, to mention a few.
…..Service above Self
To serve one’s school, to serve one’s community, to serve those less fortunate is to become a great leader. To be aware of the people who surround you, to be sensitive to the needs of others, and to work and labour without reward refines our characters and makes us better human beings. There is a spirit of service at KHS and we continue to see worth and beauty in young ladies hearts, and deeds and actions, and find this quality far more beautiful and worthy than the physical beauty of our youth.
