It was on the summer of 1996 when the parents of Barangay Calamba were greatly motivated to open a High School due to increase in cost of living which was evident on the increasing prices of commodities in the market as well as increase in transport fare. A great demand to establish a Public High School finally came to the minds of people in nearby Barangays namely: Antonio Luna, Bay-ang, Mahaba, and Tagbongabong, RTR.
So, in 1996, CALAMBA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL was opened through the leadership of Brgy. Captain Edmundo P. Taboada Sr. and his Council with the full support of South Cabadbaran District Supervisor - Mrs. Natividad C. Laureta - and Calamba Elementary School Principla - Mr. Eliseo Alipao.
At the start of the school's operation, there was only one teacher - Mrs. Ruby A. Cabungcal. The two first year classes were held at Calamba ES Mini-Gym. Books were borrowed by Brgy. Captain Taboada from NMCAST, now CSU - Cabadbaran Campus. Other physical facilities such as chalkboards, chairs, tables, etc. were generously provided by Calamba ES Officials of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA).
The school started with sixty-two (62) students for SY 1996-1997 and was annexed to Agay NHS of RTR, Agusan del Norte. The following year, enrollment remakably increased to a total of one hunded, ninety-seven (197). It was then that four additional teachers were sent to augment the teaching personnel, to wit: Mr. Filmar M. Anino, Mrs. Arlyn C. Galbo, Ms. Nora N. Burdeos, and Ms. Marlyn P. Lomarda. During that time, the school was under the supervision of Mrs. Anna Mae P. Pelegrino, the Principal of Agay NHS, RTR, Agusan del Norte.
In 1998, the school was able to acquire a new school site with a land area of 6,000 sq.m. with two buildings through CDF of Gov. Eduardo Rama Sr. The lot was transferred and declared under the name of Barangay Calamba to the Department of Education represented the Schools Division Superintendent Eden C. Omboy.
It was on its third operational year that Barangay Calamba was able to witness the First Commencement Exercises of Calamba NHS. Still the school was annexed to Agay NHS with Dr. Elvina G. Moron manning the school.
On March 18, 2000 - Pres. joseph E. Estrada signed into Law, Republic Act 8872 - AN ACT SEPARATING THE CALAMBA ANNEX HIGH SCHOOL IN AGAY, RTR, AGUSAN DEL NORTE, AND THE SAME IS HEREBY CONVERTED INTO AN INDEPENDENT NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL TO BE KNOWN AS THE CALAMBA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREOF.
With the passage of RA 8872, Calamba National High School has attained an independent status entitled to regular allocation from the Annual National Budget.
By SY 2001-2006, a School Head was assigned in the person of Mr. Carlito S. Hordista. In his incumbency, he was able to manage and improve some physical aspects of the school. It was during his term when the concrete perimeter fence was started and also the putting up of the steel arc of the gate bearing the school's name. He was transferred to Buenavista SPED.
In mid-2006, a lady administrator - Ms. Agnes H. Monton, was assigned to manage Calamba NHS. She was also a former teacher of Calamba NHS. Upon her assumption, 10 units of Perconal Computers from DTI and 8 units from USAid were awarded to the school. The Computer Laboratory Room was set-up through the aid of LGU and PTA. Many improvement took place during her administration. She is now working at a prestigious school in Thailand.
For a brief period, another administrator, Mr. Florante A. More, was assigned to Calamba from June to December of 2007. During his time, the school was able to participate in a Cheerdance competition held at Cabadbaran City Gym. He is now the new Administrative Officer of the Division of Agusan del Norte and has published his book "Red Sun Over Agusan" which depicts the Japanese occupation during World War II.
