James’s St. CBS is a co-educational secondary school in the Edmund Rice tradition. We are nestled in the heart of the Liberties in Dublin 8. James’s St. CBS is affectionately known as ‘Jamebo’ by all who have passed through our doors.
Jamebo is a lovely small school where everybody knows everybody else. This size of school helps students to adjust to the change from primary school to secondary. Some students have no problem doing this but others find the leap a bit much. As a result the school has two common rooms for first year students to use. There is one for girls and one for boys. In these rooms students can get to know their fellow classmates.
Every student has a class tutor who gets to know the student very well. We also have an excellent and very experienced Guidance Counsellor who is available to talk to students and indeed meets every student throughout the school during the year.
The school provides a full range of subjects at both Junior and Senior Certificate. There is room in James’s St. CBS for the academically brilliant and also for those who struggle a little bit. These students get extra help to assist them in bringing their grades up.
Among our many extra activities students can learn to drive, learn how to fish and take yoga classes. There is also a singing club at lunchtime where you only need to want to sing, you don’t have to be good at it! Add in teams in Soccer, Gaelic Football, Hurling and Debating and there is something for everybody. Our library is at the centre of many of our activities and here you can play chess, debate, do coding or simply relax and read a book.
Up in the top yard is the sports and recreational area. Here students can play basketball, shoot at the football or hurling walls or play Frisbee. Students may also use the Outdoor Fitness Area which has a running track at the side.
If you take a trip around our website you will find many more activities both academic and extra-curricular.
