The Petchey Academy is an academy on the site of the former Kingsland School in Dalston, North London.
It is named after businessman, philanthropist and former football club director / owner Jack Petchey, and has been sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation. It is a comprehensive high school and sixth form for boys and girls aged from 11 to 18.
The specialism of Petchey Academy is "Health, Care and Medical Sciences". To boost health, Petchey Academy has already banned packed lunches. Everybody takes a school dinner in a small group of six, and completes serving and cleaning jobs. This was after it was found that only 1% of packed lunches met the same nutritional standard as school dinners, and 20% of all British children left primary school obese.
There are six houses: Darzi, Hunt, Jenner, Saunders, Seacole and Yacoub. These houses are named after different medical heroes and famous medical figures.
There are five subject categories. These are: Core (English, Mathematics, Science), Human Spirit (Geography, History, Sociology), Expressive Arts (Music, Drama, Art), Enterprise & Innovation(Food Technology, Computing, ICT, Business, Design & Technology), Wider World (Physical Education, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin). The Petchey Academy is located in the London Borough of Hackney, where it's LEA is The Learning Trust. The Petchey Academy's uniform is a black blazer, white shirt, blue tie, black socks, black shoes and black trousers, with a tartan skirt option for girls.
The Petchey Academy (TPA) is non-denominational, specialising in Health, Care and Medical Science. The Academy has gained a number of awards including ECM Gold, Inclusion Award and National Healthy School Status.
