Seaton High School

Seaton continues to build a Culture of Achievement, which has high expectations that students:

Become successful independent learners, who;
- think critically and creatively
- develop a range of intelligences and skills
- understand and make best use of their own learning styles
Take responsibility for their own learning, setting goals, and planning and organising to achieve their goals
Act with care, respect and a sense of justice toward themselves, their families, other people and their environment.

Literacy
Seaton emphasises high levels of literacy across the whole school. Literacy skills are taught in all subjects. Students must meet the Seaton Literacy Standard in Year 10 to be promoted to Year 11. The success rate at Year 10 is 98%-100% each year. The majority of students in Years 8 and 9 successfully participate in the Premier's Reading Challange each year. On a number of occassions Seaton has topped the state in the PRC.

Numeracy
Seaton also emphasises the development of high level numeracy skills. Students must meet the Seaton Numeracy Standard in Year 10 to be promoted to Year 11. Seaton's results in the National Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests are consistently outstanding.

Thinking Skills
In all subjects there is a focus on teaching thinking and learning strategies that enable students to develop their abilities to organise and utilise information, analyse concepts and develop ideas.

Students have opportunities to learn and to demonstrate their achievement in many ways:

Student Presentations: Middle School (Year 8 and 9) students give formal Presentations of their learning twice a year to panels that include teachers, family members and often community representatives.
A further presentation is undertaken during Year 10 as part of the Personal Learning Plan and involves a students reflecting on their own learning and development.
Student learning is often exhibited publicly through performances. There are Middle School Arts Showcases, and Senior Student performance evenings. Our artists perform at every Awards Ceremony, on school Open Day and in many other events outside the school.
Twice per year, Seaton holds Award Ceremonies at which students are awarded and applauded for academic achievement and leadership.
Food and Hospitality students cater for many formal and informal events, often involving members of the public. They have to plan, meet deadlines, be extremely well organised, and produce and serve food to the highest quality.
Leadership programs develop students' capabilities to exercise positive leadership and responsibility.
