With much excitement and anticipation, Highfields State Secondary College welcomed the first students on Tuesday, 27th January 2015. Since then it has been a celebration of firsts…first day, parade, Swimming Carnival, Athletics Carnival, Cross Country, ArTech Day, Student Leaders, P&C Meeting, Values Certificates, exams, assignments, projects, clubs, sport, reports, Parent Teacher Interviews... and the list goes on.
As a new school, Highfields State Secondary College (HSSC) catered for Year 7 and 8 students in 2015 with a new year level being added each year. In 2019 HSSC will offer all year levels up to Year 12.
Students are working with highly skilled teachers in purpose built secondary facilities including Industrial Technology and Hospitality spaces, Science laboratories, a media room, Visual Art and Music spaces, a fantastic Resource Centre and welcoming classrooms.
In 2016 Stage 2 was completed comprising state of the art facilities in Performing and Visual Arts as well as Senior Industrial Technology and Hospitality classrooms for use by our Year 10 Senior Secondary students. Stage 3 has now also been approved for construction (in two stages), with the first stage to be completed by the end of 2017 ready for the 2018 school year.
Enrolments for 2017 and 2018 are being accepted. Students seeking to enrol in Year 7, 8, 9, 10 in 2017 or Year 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11 in 2018 should contact the College Office on 4614 7222 to collect a prospectus and arrange an enrolment interview.
The HSSC P&C operate a Uniform Shop located in the Administration building, just past the entrance to the office. Uniforms are also available from Hanna’s in Ruthven Street, Toowooomba. The prices will be the same at both stores. EFTPOS is available at the Uniform Shop and their opening hours are Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 8-8:45am and Friday afternoons from 3-3:45pm during each term. Please note that every student is now expected to have at least one set of the formal uniform.
Highfields State Secondary College offers a range of extra-curricular activities. Activities provided include instrumental music, choir, a variety of clubs held at both lunch breaks and after school as well as homework clubs.
