The word “Toolooa” originates from the Aboriginal name Tuluwa. The Tuluwa people were the main tribal groups, and the original inhabitants of the Gladstone region. The school was established in 1981 with 11 teaching staff and an enrolment of almost two hundred year 8 students.
In order to cater for the formal aspects of care within the school Toolooa High has opted to utilise five year level co-ordinators from Year 8 through to Year 12. These key teachers oversee the delivery of student support where warranted as well as interacting with students through the year. Students are placed in form classes where a form teacher will be a constant face throughout their time at Toolooa.
Sporting houses at Toolooa are named after nearby islands and students may belong to Curtis (Red- Dragon) Elliott (Blue - Dolphin) Heron (Green - Heron) or Keppel (Yellow - Tiger). Throughout the year, year level competitions are held with House points up for grabs. Sports days are of course run on to strengthen school pride and spirit. Who will win this year?
