本校配合呂縣長實施一鄉鎮一初中政策，開辦於民國五十一年八月一日，奉派本籍彰化縣之和美初級中學教師黃雄文兼籌備主任，首先利用和美初中名義招生一一二人，並借用線西國小教室正式上課。
五十三年七月廿日奉准獨立成為線西初中，並調升原籌備主任黃雄文先生成為首任校長。
五十七年八月一日奉令改制為彰化縣立線西國民中學。
