民國四十二年由北埔、峨眉、寶山三鄉熱心教育人士創校公推姜阿新先生 為建校主任委員 ， 三鄉鄉長為副主任委員，勘定現址，積極籌劃，九月十一 日奉准成立，名為新竹縣立竹東中學北埔分部，李梅山先生為主任，十一月舉行落成暨開學典禮。
民國四十五年奉准名為新竹縣立北埔初級中學，遴派姜炫達先生為首任校長。
民國五十七年八月實施九年國民義務教育，改制為新竹縣立北埔國民中學。
