1941
國立臺東高級中學（簡稱臺東高中或東中）。
1941年4月臺灣日治時期成立，名「臺東廳立臺東中學校」，是臺東縣的最高學府。
1945年中華民國政府接收日本台灣總督府轄區後，改制為「臺灣省立臺東中學」，分高、初中兩部。並訂12月26日為校慶。
1955年成立關山分部。
1968年停收初中部，專辦高中。
1970年更名為「臺灣省立臺東高級中學」。
1978年關山分部獨立為臺灣省立關山高級工商職業學校（今國立關山高級工商職業學校）。
1999年核定招收體育班一年級新生（男女兼收），學制為普通高中。
2000年2月1日更名為「國立臺東高級中學」，實施綜合高中學制，分學術學程及職業學程。
2005年核定招收原住民藝能班一年級新生(男女兼收)，學制為普通高中。
