Description

This uniform of Iberia was designed by renowned Spanish fashion designer Teresa Helbig and was officially unveiled during MB Madrid Fashion Week. The collection represents a new image that combines Spanish fashion aesthetics with modern aviation functionality. Helbig became one of the distinguished Spanish designers to create uniforms for Iberia, following figures such as Manuel Pertegaz, Elio Berhanyer, and Adolfo Domínguez.

The overall concept centers on elegance, comfort, and modernity, reinterpreting the traditional airline uniform through sharp tailoring and highly recognizable details. The design specifically emphasizes qualities such as “edginess,” approachability, energy, excellence, and a strong spirit of service, while also ensuring comfort and practicality for long working hours.

In terms of color composition, the uniform uses deep navy blue as the main tone, symbolizing balance, stability, and professionalism. Iberia’s signature red and yellow are integrated as accent colors throughout the collection. According to Teresa Helbig, red represents passion, dynamism, and vitality, while yellow symbolizes youthfulness, energy, and stimulation. Beige tones are also incorporated into the collection to convey a sense of calmness, natural elegance, and softness.

The dress itself adopts a minimalist fitted silhouette, but incorporates strong fashion-oriented detailing. The navy base is contrasted with vivid red piping, creating visual depth and strong recognizability. Red accents around the waist and cuffs add movement and energy to the streamlined design, while the zipper details along the sleeves introduce a distinctly contemporary fashion element, adding visual tension and a subtle futuristic character.

Teresa Helbig explained that the design reinterprets the classic airline pencil skirt, giving it a more fluid silhouette better suited to the movement and lifestyle of modern women. She also placed significant emphasis on accessories, aiming for the uniform to feel less like a strict work garment and more like fashion that people would genuinely want to wear in daily life.

Beyond the dress, the collection includes more than twenty different items, such as tailored suits, trousers, coats, knitwear, scarves, handbags, and maternity uniforms, providing a complete wardrobe system for more than 6,500 Iberia employees, including cabin crew, airport staff, and flight crews. All garments are produced and distributed by the El Corte Inglés group, aligning with Iberia’s #Talentoabordo initiative, which aims to promote Spanish creativity, design, and culture across the airline’s global network.
