Description
This uniform is the new-generation cabin crew uniform introduced by the Chinese low-cost airline 9 Air. It represents a key outcome of the airline’s brand upgrade initiative. While maintaining the professionalism expected of aviation uniforms, the design incorporates a younger and more energetic visual language, making the cabin service image more appealing to younger travelers. The launch of the new uniform marks an important step in the airline’s brand renewal. Juneyao Group Chairman Wang Junjin stated: “This uniform reflects great craftsmanship and is another new calling card we present to passengers after our brand refresh. The new image will inspire us to serve passengers better and provide them with a completely new flying experience.” Through this refreshed uniform image, the airline aims to create a more vibrant and approachable service atmosphere that enhances passengers’ perception of the brand.
In March 2024, 9 Air officially launched the design program for its new uniform series. The design was required to align visually with the airline’s updated brand identity system and aircraft livery introduced in 2023. After a series of design discussions, the airline partnered with renowned Chinese haute couture designer Guo Pei and her team to lead the overall design. This collaboration also marks the second time Guo Pei has designed airline uniforms for a company within Juneyao Group, following her 2019 design work for Juneyao Airlines. Guo Pei stated that while she is known for creating exquisite couture gowns, she also hopes ordinary people can wear her designs. She believes professional attire can express a distinctive spirit, and through this uniform she aims to resonate with younger consumers and inspire more people to board aircraft with anticipation for travel.
The uniform series includes two seasonal versions: a spring–summer set and an autumn–winter set. The spring–summer version adopts a low-saturation color scheme, with grey as the primary base tone, accented by white piping that outlines clear and crisp structural lines. This combination creates a clean, modern visual impression. The female cabin crew uniform consists of a grey tailored blazer paired with a matching skirt and a white blouse. The silhouette is fitted and streamlined, conveying a dignified yet approachable service image. The blazer features a notched lapel design, with white piping extending along the collar and outer edges to form a clearly defined outline. Notably, the piping cleverly traces the airline’s iconic “9” symbol across the right chest, seamlessly integrating the brand logo into the garment’s structure.
The “9” motif serves as the central identity element throughout the uniform design. The design team distinguishes male and female uniforms through color accents, using light grey and rose-magenta respectively. In the female uniform, rose-magenta replaces the traditional airline neck bow as a decorative accent, creating a more contemporary and lively appearance. The same rose-magenta detailing is applied to the pockets and cuffs, adding rhythmic visual highlights against the minimalist grey base. The women’s blouse features fabric printed with a polka-dot pattern formed by the “9” logo and is designed with a slightly relaxed hem silhouette, contributing to a youthful aesthetic. In contrast, the men’s shirts incorporate grey-and-white paneling to produce a sharper and more structured visual style.
