基本資料 | Information

We are a level 1 Māori immersion school, with 80% instruction in te reo Māori. Te Wharekura o Te Kaokaoroa o Pātetere is situated in the township of Putaruru, currently it has 150 students enrolled from Year 1 to Year 13. Most students are Ngāti Raukawa and a close association exists between the iwi and local marae.

Te Wharekura o Te Kaokaoroa o Pātetere began life as Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Waitete on April 14th 2002 at a location in Arapuni. The school relocated to its present site in January 2004 as part of the EDI which took place. In 2005, the secondary school unit was established with Year 9 and Year 10 students. In October of 2006, the minister of education granted the school stand alone staus and we ended a wonderful relationship with Raglan Area School.

The school logo was designed by April Silveira and is representation of the kaokao pattern unique to our area used in weaving. It is the rib cartilage symbolizing strength through unity; the blue is representative of the rivers that flow through our rohe. Initially Waitete the stream that our ancestress Mahinarangi first fed her son Raukawa. Oraka is the other significant river that flows below the school, and indeed was the name of the primary school that occupied this site for 50 years prior to our arrival.

The school motto is: “Whangai te iti Kahurangi”
Loosely translated this means, look after that which is small and precious. This could relate to our students who are our treasures or indeed Te Reo and Tikanga which is precious.
