Cromwell is a thriving New Zealand provincial town of 5000 people close to Wanaka and Queenstown. The town is located at the junction of the Clutha and Kawarau Rivers and is surrounded by the Pisa, Dunstan and Cairnmuir mountains. Typical Cromwell weather consists of warm, dry summers, crisp, clear winters and low rainfall. Although snowfalls are heavy in the surrounding mountains, snow in the town is a rare event.
The building of the Clyde Dam in the 1980's created Lake Dunstan and provided Cromwell with a wealth of modern facilities. Tourism, horticulture and a rapidly expanding viticulture industry are the economic mainstays of the town today.
