St Clare’s High School is a coeducational, regional High School, founded on the Josephite tradition, serving the parishes of Taree/Wingham, Forster/Tuncurry, Krambach/Gloucester/Nabiac and Bulahdelah.

Catholic secondary classes began in Taree in 1926 conducted by the Sisters of St Joseph, Lochinvar. Due to growing numbers a new secondary school, Rosary High, was built in 1962.

Further growth then necessitated that another school be built on the present site in Davis Street, Taree. Taree Catholic High School, as it was then known, was officially opened and dedicated to the memory of Fr Thomas Mulcahy on 31 January 1971. In 1986, with the commencement of classes in Year 11, the name was changed to St Clare’s High School following the custom that Diocesan schools are named under the patronage of a saint whose qualities can be emulated by the school community.
