Auburn Girls High School is an academically selective and comprehensive girls secondary school with around 810 students. It is a vibrant, diverse, multicultural community with 98% of students from non-English speaking backgrounds. The School is a caring and inclusive learning community where individual student needs are recognised and talents fostered in the pursuit of personal excellence.
We offer an extensive curriculum with a broad range of opportunities for all our students to achieve excellence in their academic, technological, creative, sporting, social, cultural and leadership endeavours. Embedded in our curriculum is a focus on the development of 21st century skills including innovation, problem solving, teamwork and communication equipping our girls with the skills required to transition effectively into the modern world. Our teachers are committed to on-going professional learning especially in literacy. The professional learning is informed by evidence based research ensuring they are equipped to provide students with outstanding learning experiences. Students are engaged and challenged with learning and co-curriculum opportunities that inspire them to develop as confident, resilient and independent lifelong learners. They are the future leaders and role models of our modern society.
Academic excellence is a priority with the majority of our HSC students pursuing further study at university or TAFE and many receiving awards for excellence in academic and extra-curricular competitions. Our valued partnerships with several universities including Sydney, Macquarie, NSW and Western Sydney ensure our girls are familiar and more confident with university life. Transition beyond school, including applications, guidance and course advice to universities is supported with individual student mentoring from our specialist transition and careers teachers.
Student voice is heard and respected. It is integral in informing our school’s strategic directions. Student leadership is nurtured and we have a highly effective Prefect Leadership Team and Student Representative Council at work in the school. The school offers many programs to facilitate student leadership including programs with partners from our local community and businesses.
Social responsibility and ethical behaviour underpin all relationships and actions. Each year group supports a charity and students are encouraged to undertake community service and volunteering activities. Our girls are supported to become resilient, ethical, well-rounded high achievers with a social conscience and a desire to enrich and lead society in the future.
Auburn Girls provides a myriad of opportunities to suit the interests and abilities of all our students. School clubs are on offer in many exciting areas including Anime. Public speaking and debating are particular areas of strength, with successes at state levels in recent years. The School also takes part in competitions such as Tournament of the Minds, Mock Trial and Model United Nations with great success. Our talented musicians have the opportunity to join the school band. The performances of our girls at the Schools Spectacular annually, at the Sydney Opera House, highlights the outstanding success of our school band and performing arts groups. Sport also plays a significant role, with many individual and team successes in a range of sports. The challenges provided by the Duke of Edinburgh program has allowed our students to strive to achieve their personal best.
Positive Education underpins the curriculum at Auburn Girls and enhances the wellbeing of our students with effective strategies for emotional and mental wellbeing. We have created our own wellbeing model derived from positive education, integrating the core elements of positive emotions, engagement, resilience, meaning and achievement building on the girls understanding of what creates a positive and fulfilling life. Positive Education supports our students to develop respectful relationships with their peers, family, teachers and the broader community.
Our students are also fortunate to learn in comfortable, air-conditioned, well-equipped and technology rich classrooms.
We value relationships and connections with our parents. A successful partnership between the school and parents will ensure the most successful outcomes are achieved by our students. We regularly invite parents to attend school events, Community Meetings and join the P and C.
We as a school community are very proud of our school and continue to work together in harmony to build on it’s outstanding reputation. On behalf of the school and community, I warmly welcome you to this website and trust you will find it informative.
