基本資料 | Information

Capella State High School is located Halfway between Emerald and Clermont just off the Gregory Highway on Gordon St. The school was first established in 1984 and services the local rural and mining communities. Numbers of Students enrolled at Capella State High School vary depending on the status of the mining industry. The school is currently staffed with 17 teachers and 16 support staff. About 75% of students travel to and from school each day on a bus. Just over two percent of the student population is indigenous and most of the students’ parents are employed in the mining industry or mining related industries.

The school population is made up of students from the heritage town of Capella and the mining town of Tieri (which services Oaky Creek mine); both of which are surrounded by established grazing, grain and farming properties. The business community gives a high level of support to workplace learning programs, especially school based apprenticeships, traineeships, and work experience. Community service programs have wide local support. There is a working relationship with the partner schools of Capella State School and Tieri State School, with a move to strengthen the partnership into a strategic alliance to enhance the learning opportunities for all our students in the Peak Downs.

Both towns have a lively community culture, with Capella having a regionally recognised Cultural Centre, Covered Arena and Aquatic Centre. Capella State High School is committed to providing a supportive school environment where all members feel safe and are valued; where social and academic learning outcomes are maximised for all through quality relationships, curriculum and school organisation; where school practices are proactive rather than reactive and where appropriate and non-discriminatory language and behaviours are defined, modelled and reinforced.

The values and beliefs that drive and influence our decisions are: SUCCESS - “I achieve my goals. I strive to new heights”, TEAMWORK - “I consider others. I show support” , ATTITUDE - “I am enthusiastic and ready to learn”, RESPECT - “I show respect for self, others and property” These values and beliefs are embedded in the curriculum and expressed through our everyday learning. All are inter-related and without all four in place, Capella State High School would not function effectively. It is expected that all members of our school community will consistently display our values and beliefs in all actions. These values and beliefs are the foundation of our Responsible Behaviour Plan for students.

The development of student leadership, responsibility and personal growth is strongly supported by the school through various initiatives and support structures. A student services support team database has been established that gives a picture of resources and services available in the district for our students and parents.

Our P&C is a very active & friendly group of people who have worked very hard over past years to maintain a regular communication between parents and school personnel as well as raising funds for school resources. The school’s student council is very active and regularly donates to local community groups and charities.

The school offers a distinctive curriculum with alternate pathways reflecting both the rural and mining settings and values in which it operates. Many of the distinctive subjects its offers are : Certificate II Rural Operations, Skilling classes for all students – Career education and social literacy, Curriculum enhancement classes, Personal Knowledge Pursuit Projects for junior school students, Smart moves classes for all students, Distance education classes, afternoon tutorials in Capella and Tieri and its Education Queensland Showcase award winning Cattle Club.
